QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer)

QPR is a nationally recognized, evidenced-based certification training that offers 1 hour of CEUs and holds the same weight as a CPR certification. Participants will learn:

  • Demographics and trends of suicide nationally and locally
  • Warning signs of suicide
  • Myths and facts of suicide
  • How to ask the “suicide question”
  • How to persuade people to get help
  • How to connect people to care

QPR is a great training for groups or organizations to get a solid foundation in how to practically identify and help those contemplating suicide or experiencing emotional or mental crisis. ASP offers this free 60-90 minute training to any interested party.

If you’d like to request a QPR training for your group, please fill out the “request a training” form at the bottom of this page.

If you’d like to attend a virtual community QPR, please view upcoming dates and register here on our Eventbrite page.

Community Training Coordination

The Alliance For Suicide Prevention also provides a community training coordination function for Larimer County. Many agencies and professional services are needed to effectively reduce suicide in a community. A broad range of activities and trainings take place in Larimer County on the topic of mental health. The Alliance is well connected to many community partners and can connect you with subsequent trainings from multiple agencies.

Community Consultation

US Military Cultural Familiarization

This training gives attendees an introductory level understanding of the US Military structure and culture as well as the impacts of service, combat, and trauma on individuals. We recommend this short training for folks in organizations working with veteran populations and also those who would simply like to be more informed.

ABC’s of LGBTQ+

This is a training that focuses on the basics of the LGBTQ+ community. The training includes information about different identities, the importance of language and labels, and how to be a better ally. If you’re curious about LGBTQ+ topics, have some questions that you’ve always wanted to ask, or wish to learn what all the letters mean, this training is for you.

LGBTQ+ How to Be a Trusted Adult

This is a training that provides attendees with concrete steps and actions that you can take to prevent LGBTQ+ youth suicide. This training focuses on how to have conversations about LGBTQ+ topics and establish yourself as a trusted adult for LGBTQ+ youth, and how to respond when someone comes out to you. In combination with QPR and other suicide prevention gatekeeper trainings, this is a vital training to prevent LGBTQ+ youth suicide.

Postvention Training

This training, which gives an elevated overview on suicide postvention, is highly recommended for clinicians, crisis workers and first responders offering support to suicide loss survivors, and for anyone offering support to suicide loss survivors who’ve already received QPR or a similar level training. Participants will:
  • Increase awareness of common reactions from adults, teens and children following suicide loss.
  • Increase their comfort supporting suicide loss survivors.
  • Gain practical tools for talking with and supporting suicide loss survivors.
  • Know how suicides are responded to in Larimer County and the available national and local resources for loss survivors.
  • Learn best practices for dealing with suicidality in loss survivors
